Dave Mail 76: Frusciante and his tone references

With five studio albums with the Chili Peppers, Frusciante had a long list of songs and consequently, guitar tones. At any point did you and Frusciante got to study his tones in past albuns or tours in order to recreate it with maximum accuracy?

Dave Lee: "Not that I remember. He never used an older song as a reference. Sometimes he might say his 'usual tone'. Or he might reference another band. Like, he might say 'Sabbathy sound' or something. But that too would be rare."
