Dave Mail 8: Was there any proposal for you to continue with Klinghoffer?

Was there any proposal for you to continue working in the Red Hot Chili Peppers with Josh Klinghoffer?

Dave Lee: "Actually yes. During the time that John was trying to decide if he wanted to stay, Flea and I had started the "Fleabass" business. I had decided that the business was where my life was headed, and began turning down other touring offers to concentrate on the Fleabass business.
It was during that time that John announced that he will leave, and Josh was in. But like I said, I was doing the bass business, so I would've been far to busy with that to tour as Josh's tech. Then, just as the band was getting ready to record "I'm With You" Flea decided to shut down the Fleabass business (a decision that I didn't agree with, but I fully understand). Then a decision came down that they didn't need a guitar tech in the studio, that Josh could take care of himself. I was told my services would not be needed until the tour (possibly 6 months to a year). I have to admit, I was hurt. So I needed to find a tour. And at some point, along came Maroon 5. When the Peppers were ready to go back to work, I was in the middle of the Maroon 5 tour. I was having such a great time, and since M5 came along when I really needed them, I felt I should stay. It was the right decision. But I must say, I love Josh, and keep in touch with him."
