John used D'Addario XL .10 strings (replacing the high E for a .11) in his Stratocasters, Telecasters and Jaguar. On the Gretsch, he used .12 strings, but did he also replaced the high E? What was the reason for that specific choice on the high E, having it different from the others?
Dave Lee: "We did use .12s on the Gretsch. We put an .11 on the high E on all his other guitars in hopes they would be less likely to break. And it worked. ...usually."
Frusciante's guitar strings were replaced before every concert?
Dave Lee: "On the '62 and the Tele, I would change strings just about every show. The others could go for two or even three shows as they were only played for a song or two."
