How was the process of conception and creation of the Fleabass?

Dave Lee: "The Fleabass thing came along in a dressing room before a show. Flea had started his Silverlake Conservatory of Music. As a non profit school. And it was (and still is) doing well.  He said it seemed strange to him that he owned a non profit school, and his name was on a $2,000 bass (Modulus). He said "I should start my own bass company. And sell good quality basses for less money". Then I said "Hey! I'll build the prototype, and we'll start a business". He said "Ok, partner!" We shook hands. That's really how it happened."
