Dave Mail 64: The Red Hot Chili Peppers' endless source

In 2014, a lot of new material from the Red Hot Chili Peppers leaked on the Internet, including new songs. After 12 years working with them and knowing of their creative capabilities, do you think there still is a lot of unreleased material? Do you have any memories of that, or maybe a favourite unreleased song?

Dave Lee: "I don't know exactly how many "unreleased" Chili Peppers' songs exist. But I'm sure there are a lot. When we recorded By The Way, it came out with 16 songs. But they wrote and recorded as many as 30 songs for that album. They would then battle over which songs would make the final cut. My personal favorite song from the By The Way sessions never got released. I remember being bummed when I heard it didnt make the cut. In fact, that's kind of how Stadium became a double album. They just couldn't come to an agreement on which songs to cut. They all liked too many of them. Nobody puts out a double studio album anymore. Lol. But they did. A double album is not a very good business move. But it sure worked for them."

Also, listen to "Mini Epic (Kill For Your Country)", played by the band in a few shows in 2004; and the unknown "My Boy (My Girl)", played only during the first show of the Stadium Arcadium tour, which to some fans is just a jam, while others believe it may have been rehearsed in some way - or even recorded - during the album's sessions.
